The Method is Madness

Art of all kinds has rules. That is, until those rules are broken and rewritten. Beethoven rewrote the rules of what was accepted as music. Van Gogh rewrote the rules for what made visual art artistic. Storytelling is no different. Stories and structures have changed over the centuries, with every foundational storyteller extending those foundations. Advances in media and technology have shaped the ways we tell stories, and how we tell stories in those various media. You can tell a tale in a film in ways you can’t tell it on the page, and vice versa.

As time goes on, and society progresses, we find ways to tell new stories, and to tell old stories in new ways. The experience is always changing, and understanding what makes a good or a bad experience is key to being able to provide your own experience to the masses.

Let’s talk about that.
